When did the USA become the United Nations? I'm not a Rosie fan, but she's right - Iraq should never have been part of the 'war on terror'. They've never attacked us, although, if memory serves me, we've attacked them, TWICE! I don't dispute that Sadaam Hussain inflicted atrocities upon the people of Iraq, but wise up if you believe America's war has anything to do with humanitarianism, weapons of mass destruction, or putting an end to al Qaeda. No doubt, you still believe that the US declared war on Vietnam to stop communism! If we are so concerned with human rights, where were we when the Hutus were slaughtering the Tutsis? Why aren't we trying to end the crisis in Sudan? Could it be that we have nothing to gain from such 'humanitarianism'? Iraq, on the other hand, very convenient. Its comical that people actually believe the Iraq war is an attempt to stop bin Laden. One has nothing to do with the other. After all, if we invaded Iraq to get at al Qaeda, then we should have simultaneously declared war on Britain, Italy, Germany, Canada, and ourselves! In otherwords, Al Qaeda is EVERYWHERE. No doubt, there are some who believe that once their mastermind, bin Laden is found and killed, Al Qaeda will cease to exist. If we learned anything from Iraq, it should be that the trouble doesn't end with it's leader. No doubt, bin Laden has a successor or two waiting to carry out his vision once he's gone. As long as the US governement continues to interfere in the middle east and impose its social system and ideology upon other countries, we will remain al Qaeda's primary target.

"BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN IRAQ THAT LOVE US BEING THERE. WE HAVE FINALLY GIVEN THEM HOPE FOR A DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT AND WE ARE, SLOWLY BUT SURELY, GETTING THESE MILITANT TIME BOMBS OUT OF THE PICTURE. IF WE DON’T OUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN ETC WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO BE TRULY SAFE. I DID NOT FEEL SUPPORTED WHEN I WAS THERE AND I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE. PEOPLE CAN NOT SAY WE SUPPORT YOU BUT NOT WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I HAVE TO SAY THAT 80 TO 90% OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS THERE, BELIEVE THAT WE ARE THERE FOR THE RIGHT REASON. BUT NO ONE HAS SEEMS TO FEEL THE NEED TO ASK US." -CARY

I believe that you spoke the truth there, Cary. I know of 3 soldiers who came back from Iraq and all said that they were very upset with how the MEDIA protrayed things in Iraq.
I support you and ALL soldiers serving in the US Military.
"MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS THERE, BELIEVE THAT WE ARE THERE FOR THE RIGHT REASON. BUT NO ONE HAS SEEMS TO FEEL THE NEED TO ASK US."
I think that is very true too. I wonder why? Maybe because they would have to change their views? It seems in America we hate to admit we are wrong, regardless of our political parties.
I have to admit that I supported the war when it first started and believe that we did what we had to do, but now after over 3,000 lives are lost, I wish that they would just come home. However, I know that that would be a big mistake. What we need is someone to say "Damn it, enough is enough, forget democracy, here is what we are going to do, and here is what you are going to do." Kind of like "Shock and Awe" I am talking about pinpointing Terrorist and let them have it! No survivors, forget interogating them or keeping them in a comfortable holding cell with 3 nutitional meals. I think the problem is that we are so concerned with playing "fair" and these terrorist know it and use it again and again against us. We need to shake things up abit and clean house. (That's just my opinion)

it is generally agreed
by all sides

ON IRAQ

the bush administration
was delusional and naive

along with many us citizens
and politicians

don't be defensive

nobody likes to be wrong

it is complicity:
Not To Call Something What It Is !!!

it's what's got us where we are in IRAQ

and i'm not gonna slam-dunk
i appreciate and respect you for your service, Cary

it's hypocritical to talk about our right to speak -
and then say what's "wrong" to say

my wife was covered by the cloud

good luck to you

I feel that to call others naive and having delusions for their views or their take on these situations, is wrong. What makes your views the correct ones and any opposing view wrong? You could be the one that is naive. As for myself, when I signed on the perverbal dotted line and joined the Army, I gave up my nativity. This is what makes this country so great. That we can speak opposing views with out being jailed or even killed. As for Rosie and Elisabeth, they both need to stop and think before they speak and think about the damage that they can do with the words they speak. All the negativity that is spoken hear did and still does get back to the soldiers and it does have an effect. That was my main point. I and the men and women I spent my time with in Iraq believe in our purpose there.

"Why does Rosie get all the criticism while Elisabeth gets all the praise?"

I think the answer is clear...

Notice that, in my letters to them (on my blog), I never mentioned the actual political issues at all...

Elizabeth has the edge because she has the "nice factor."

People DO NOT appreciate "the meanest bully on the playground."

Being loud, and mean, and disrespectful... TURNS PEOPLE OFF faster than anything....

Even people who agree with her politically views, despise the way she treats other people... on the show and otherwise.

Being disrespectful is NEVER an effective way to get your point across --- even if you're right.

I wonder if she learned this.

Afghanistan is one country
Iraq is another
Iran is yet another

maybe you can make a connection
between 9/11 and North Korea

Scared people are Scary

some of you will feel safe
but you won't
and you won't stop there

i find none of you disingenuous,
only naive, some of you

Brian,

Nowhere in my post did I say Rosie does not believe in God. What I said was that she criticizes Christianity and those who believe in God and Jesus and yes they are 2 different people, and calls them RIGHT WING,REPUBLICANS and or extremist , especially those who do not agree with her views.

Cary is absolutely right. I completely agree with your entire post. I fully support our troops and believe that liberating the Iraqi people was the right thing to do. As Cary indicated, most of the military personnel in Iraqi and the Iraqi people themselves believe the U.S. is doing the right thing.

Entertainers like Rosie, the Dixie Chicks, and others should be mindful of inflammatory comments they make about our government and our leaders. Rosie is upset because Republicans have negative comments about her. Isn't she doing the same thing when she goes off on a political commentary that attacks the U.S. government? These entertainers need to realize that we don't watch them for political commentary, but because at times they are entertaining. If they want to help solve perceived problems in domestic and foreign policy, then run for office. Quit the complaining and do something to change it.

Elisabeth was correct in asking Rosie to defend her own comments. If a celebrity makes a comment that may be seen as inflammatory, then that celebrity needs to be prepared to take the heat and deal with whatever consequences may follow (i.e. Dixin Chicks).

I could go on about this all night, but in the end all sides in this political argument have positions that have some merit. I think we can all agree that political bashing in counter productive. If there is something wrong with the current system, then let's do something to change it.

God bless our troops and the leaders that have to make the difficult decisions to protect our country.

Right vs Left...Rosie vs Liz...I don't know the whole story and I've never watched a full hour of The View. I could care less who is on the show. I'm not an activist of any kind, I don't discriminate against gays, or anyone else. As I watched, I saw someone who questions the things we do and someone else who defends the things our country is doing. We've seen it everyday since the war started. If Democrats were in control of the White House right now, and they were responsible for choosing to send us into war, they'd be in the hot seat. I think they should've kept Rosie on the show just to bring balance to "The View" this show brings to TV...it's an example of what's on everyone's mind and humanizes our celeb personalities. Freedom of speech! Let them speak! The most interesting thing to me was the difference in responses each speaker received while delivering their "View". Clearly the majority of the audience members were in agreement with the politically left. The Republican party to me may be in a position where they so want to stand up and support their views, like Liz, but seem to be doing so with more and more hesitation as this administration brings us deeper and deeper into a war that may very well never be resolved in this lifetime. God bless the troops for doing what they do. And may God help this administration and the next in making the best decision for this country and humanity. Maybe one day, humans will decide that we're all really in this together.

I think they should’ve kept Rosie on the show just to bring balance to “The View” this show brings to TV…it’s an example of what’s on everyone’s mind and humanizes our celeb personalities. Freedom of speech! Let them speak! The most interesting thing to me was the difference in responses each speaker received while delivering their “View”. Maybe one day, humans will decide that we’re all really in this together.
