The View From Here

So, I’m about ready to put this whole View thing to rest, but I feel the need to address Rosie’s departure since I haven’t really done that yet. It might seem a little passé at this point, but here goes.

When I first heard the news, my initial reaction was to think that she was cowardly and childish. I couldn’t believe that she was going to allow Elisabeth Hasselbeck and the “Right” to come out looking like the winners while she looked like a big baby. Those feelings soon changed after I watched a video she posted and read some of the comments on her site.

Rosie may appear to be a big, brash loudmouth, but I think it’s all a front and she’s really a big softie. She loves kids, animals and people, but when she feels strongly about an issue (even if she’s wrong), she will get rough and tough with anyone that disagrees. That may be a huge personal problem of hers, but it’s one that I’m willing to overlook since I don’t have to deal with her in real life.

Her feelings were clearly hurt by Elisabeth and the producers of the show. The split-screen seems to be the real kicker, causing her to compare The View with Jerry Springer’s tacky program. One can definitely tell that the producers refused to cut to commercial, even though the other two hosts were asking for one. Rosie felt set-up and used by the show as they took advantage of what seemed to be a very personal disagreement between two women.

It’s sad, really. I have the privilege of living close enough to work to come home on my lunch break and have watched The View almost every day since Rosie joined. It has become somewhat of a ritual that I will greatly miss, but just like everything else in life - nothing lasts forever.

On a slightly different note, the appetite for celebrity gossip and discord is apparently insatiable. I’m just as guilty as the next person, though, spending quite a bit of time most days scouring websites that not only reveal intimate details of celebrities lives but also make mean and downright nasty comments about them. I guess we all need a little escape from the realities of war and inflated fuel prices, and what better catalyst for that pent-up anger than judging a famous person who doesn’t seem to share those same worries?

“Rosie may appear to be a big, brash loudmouth, but I think it’s all a front and she’s really a big softie.”

Brian, I agree. I also agree that she saw this as a personal attack from someone she tried very hard to befriend druing the past few months in spite of their differences. I caught the show that aired on Memorial Day where Rosie gave Elisabeth’s family access to her home in Miami for a time of vacation and R&R– what a generous gift.

I agree that the producers took advantage of the situation by refusing to cut to a commercial and allowing both women “cool off” during the break. They knew the ratings would go through the roof and for them that was worth skipping a few commercials and perhaps losing a few ad dollars. They knew they’d make a bundle in the long-run. So maybe a lot of the pain could have been avoided if the guys in charge weren’t so greedy.

Rosie’s gone a little earlier than planned. It’s our loss. I keep her in my prayers.

As always, follow the money. I have never cared for Rosie’s style, too loud and brash. I am a softer side of life person, so I find her quite annoying. I have never watched the show, the View after my first glance which lasted about 10 minutes. I thought it was chaotic and very mean spirited. So, I will not miss Rosie whether she leaves or stays. I have no curiosity about celebrities lives, so I know nothing about that kind of gossip. Guess you can color me boring.

That’s a tough business…I hope she’s not taking it too personally. I never get why people who don’t HAVE to work continue to do so…

Good point! I would be on permanent vacation.

Very nicely stated. I share your thoughts on this one.
