I don’t know why this thrills me so much, but I’m overjoyed. It’s so refreshing when someone stops hiding and tells the world “Take me as I am or don’t take me at all.”
Foster and her partner, Cydney, have been together for 15 years and have two children. After thanking her publicly at a recent event, Jodie added:
“I feel fragile … unsure, struggling to figure it all out, trying to get there even though I’m not sure where there is,” she said. “I’ve been working in this business for 42 years and there’s no way you can do that and not be as nutty as a fruitcake.”

I’m glad she finally came out too. Personally, I’m a huge Jodie fan and amid all the speculation over all of the years, I’ve always figured she was family. Good for her for having the confidence to share… I think she’s a great role model for the GLBT community.
There are all sorts of closets folks live in; anytime someone dares to step out of theirs, it’s a good thing for the rest of us. One person’s courage lights the way for the next one.
Good on you, Jodie!
@ Stephanie: I’ve always really liked her, too, and suspected that she was a lesbian.
@ Karen: Beautifully stated.
WOW! I had no idea. Not that it matters, just sayin WOW! I learn something new here all the time. LOL
Brian, that is refreshing, isn’t it?
FFPT, my sentiments exactly.
I always respected Jodie’s desire for privacy, and I so admire her for moving beyond it and sharing more of herself with the world. Thanks Jodie!!! Your one simple statement acknowledging Cydney also acknowledges me and every other gay person on the planet.
I think she did this in a very classy way. I get the feeling that she just wants to be herself, and not have to feel accountable for reporting to others on her personal life. But it must have felt wonderful to Cydney to finally be acknowledged!
I’m glad she finally made it official, I’ve always had high regard for her talent and intelligence. That closet thing is tricky - I used to be out out out then in these past few super conservative years I’ve stepped in and out, depending on how safe I feel in different situations. Good for her, she’s both brave and talented.
That photo of her is beautiful! She’s so classy. Sassy, and classy.
@ freefrompt: I aim to please!
@ fightingwindmills: Yes, it is!
@ Mary: I’m always torn between respecting their privacy and a desire for them to be true to themselves. I think the latter is much more beneficial to all of us.
@ moonbeammcqueen: I agree. I’m sure Cydney was delighted.
@ bosquechica: That’s understandable. I also have to be careful about how “out” I am in certain places around my neck of the woods.
@ Wendy: Isn’t it? I think she’s a lovely lady.
