@ MBMQ: Glad my blog is back on your list. I have been working with my father for a few weeks now and things are going very well.

@ FreeFromItAll: She has a way with words, doesn't she?

@ Alyson: At least you didn't write "Brain." They used to do that to me all the time on lunch orders.

@ Jamie: Thank you. He really is.

@ fightingwindmills: I'm also getting ready to celebrate 100,000 views - something that really blows my mind. Thanks for your kind words!

Hey Brian, what a great post. :) And happy 600th post milestone, too! I agree with Karen that your journey gives many readers courage and your thoughtful posts give us reason to respect you and ourselves.

Great post.

It really is amazing how things change so quickly, but they always work out for the best.

There was a guy in my driving class that looked so much like your dad it was scary. Really. His name's Kyle, but I kept wanting to call him Brian. (When I wrote down our lunch order one day, I actually wrote Brian on his order.)

Karen said: Happiness means something because we honor those occasions/seasons in our lives when we are sad or confused or…fill in the blank.

That statement just made me tear up....it's a very profound and deep statement when one has experienced "honoring it". I would have never known the joy I am experiencing now without the .... (fill in the blank). The key is to find a way out of the (fill in the blank) and come out on the side victorious. Not always easy, but always necessary to heal.

Thank you Karen, for reminding me of that.

Thank Bri, I'm happy that I'm happy too. What a long journey.

Brian, for some reason your blog fell off of my blogsurfer list. I'm glad to see that you're still here, and still posting.

I had no idea you'd gone to work for your dad! How wonderful that you're around someone so kind and happy. I think any of us who read his letter that you posted here know what a good guy he is, and how much he cares about you. Isn't it nice to be working for someone who not only asks you if you're happy, but cares about the answer?? :)

@ ohchicken: He's easy to love. Thanks!

@ FreeFromItAll: I'm glad you're happy!

@ irishof: I think so, but it's taken me a long time to get to this point. I have lots of religious baggage, so to speak.

@ Karen: Finding value in sadness is a difficult concept, but a good one.

It does seem like my heavenly father would love me and be just as proud of me as my earthly father, huh?

@ Caroline: It is a new look and it just debuted last night. Glad you like it and thanks for the well wishes!

I like your most recent blog look! I usually read you from my aggregator, so this may not be "new" and if not, then I apologize.

Anyway...loved this post and glad to hear things are going so well for you. Hope the streak continues. :)

There are several books out right now challenging Americans to find value in those times when we AREN'T happy. I thought that's where your post might be headed.

Happiness means something because we honor those occasions/seasons in our lives when we are sad or confused or...fill in the blank.

Continue to pay attention to (and write about) your journey, Brian! You give the rest of us courage to respect where we are in our lives.

Oh yeah...about hell breaking wide open. I think God's even happier about where you and your father are than the two of you put together.

I think it's wonderful that neither of you believe that. I've never understood the conviction among so many religious people that everyone is going to hell and everything is miserable, etc, etc. Shouldn't God be a source of joy in one's life?
