It’s Time To Celebrate!

Today is International Respect for Chickens Day, which “celebrates the devotion of hens to their chicks and also deplores the suffering of motherless chickens on factory farms.” The photo to the right shows a rescued chick being fostered by her new mom.

And… today is my 34th birthday. Since I’m nearing middle-age, I think I’ll go ahead and start planning one heck of a mid-life crisis. I think I’ll get pec implants, a red convertible, and a hot, younger guy. Well, I’ve already got the last one covered, but the bigger chest and sports car sounds pretty good.

Have a great day, everybody, but please don’t eat any loving chicken mommies for lunch!

I hope you had a wonderful day!
In honor of your big day I didn’t eat any chicken, intentionally, (there may have been some chicken in the peperoni that was on my pizza, who knows what’s in that stuff)

Wow, you get an all new Brothers & Sisters for your birthday, and Saul just came out. (hope I didn’t ruin it for you).

    Love ya.

I’m such a hypocrite… I actually had chicken for lunch. We went to Olive Garden and I always order my favorite – chicken fettuccine alfredo.

I haven’t seen the latest B&S, but have it waiting on the DVR!

Happy birthday old man! :) I’ll refrain from chicken today, in your honor.

    Brian,

Uhm…at the potluck after church I forgot and had some chicken salad, chicken pasta casserole and another chicken dish that I can’t remember. Your hypocrisy mine company.

@ Caroline: Thirty-four lashes with a wet noodle for calling me old. :P

@ Wei-Hsien Wan: You totally crack me up. Not only did you eat chicken, but you ate almost every kind of chicken dish that I’ve ever heard of. :D

    Brian,

Happy belated birthday and maniversary! I’ve been away for a while, but I’m enjoying getting caught up. I had chicken on your birthday, and the day after that, but none today…well, eggs for breakfast–does that count?

Hope you had a wonderful birthday, young man!

Brian, you had chicken for lunch??? We made chicken soup for lunch on Sunday and it was guilt-free and delicious! I’m so glad you had a good birthday. I love the identicons, don’t you? They look so beautiful on your blog.

    Happy belated birthday, Brian.

What is this, birthday week? My friend QuakerJono’s birthday was the 5th, and my husband Norm’s was on the 6th.

You people are all birthday-ing me out!

(Oh, and we treat our chickens well. They’re named Snowball, Stripes, Checkers, and Lucy. Lucy’s the red one, always getting into trouble.) :)

@ jimthomp87: Thanks so much for calling me “young.” I loved it when I ordered a drink on Sunday and was asked to produce some ID. Sweet.

@ fightingwindmills: I know, I know. But chicken tastes good! And, yes, I do love the identicons!

@ Jamie: This IS birthday week! My aunt’s was the 5th and my belated grandfather’s would have been the same day.

I love the fact that you guys have chickens. I used to raise them when I was a kid. We lived just inside the city limits of our small town, but I had chickens running loose and roosting in the trees. I remember one very angry man stopping to tell us that he had swerved to avoid hitting one of them and spilled an open container of gasoline in his car. Good times. :P
