Obama: Messiah, Antichrist, Or Slick Politician?

I love conspiracy theories, so when I stumbled across a website discussing the messianic elements of Barack Obama’s campaign, I had to indulge my interest. There does seem to be an almost religious fervor behind this man, evident in the large crowds of screaming and crying people, the media’s obsession with him, and even a pair of music videos released by Wyclef Jean. Video #1, Video #2

If you ever had any doubt that the media is intentionally perpetuating this image, then check out the two following pictures. The “halo” image is from Reuters and has been widely distributed on the internet recently. The other is from The New York Times and has been compared to the Transfiguration of Christ.

Any reference to Obama as a the new Messiah also necessitates comparisons between him and the Antichrist mentioned in New Testament prophecy. There is, of course, a website dedicated to figuring out if Obama fits the description given in the Bible of Satan incarnate. Some of the details of Obama’s life do seem to fit the prediction, like the verse in Revelation that says the Antichrist will arise out of the sea (he was born in Hawaii). He also seems to have an uncanny ability to unite people (another character trait of the Antichrist), and MSNBC report Chris Matthews even described feeling an electric shock go up his leg while listening to Obama speak (supernatural powers or arthritic cramp?).

This all seems like hysterics, but millions of people believe the end is near. When you think about it, it does seem that the public has been perfectly primed for the scenario presented in the Bible’s End of Times. The average person is ready for change, looking for leadership, feeling helpless and hopeless - what better time for a global leader to enter the scene? Someone with a message of change and hope.

I suspect that most of this is based on fear - fear of change, of confronting racism, of not having better choices in a presidential election - but Barack does seem to purposefully use Biblically-styled speech to whip the crowds into a frenzy. Whether he has anything sinister up his sleeve remains to be seen, but we all know that Washington corrupts people with the best intentions, and I would bet that Obama turns out to be just like every other politican in the end… self-serving, greedy, and unconcerned with the welfare of most Americans.

    Brian,

I too, love conspiracy theories. I hear this stuff all the time. Here in the land of Pat Robertson and the Falwellians I am bombarded with “evidence” from people who are convinced he is the Anti-Christ. Since they insist on “biblical evidence” I have a few verses of scripture I like to share with them:

“Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. (1 John 2:18, NIV) It’s interesting that this was written around 2,000 years ago :)

“This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. (1 John 4:2-3, NIV) It is interesting that Barack is a Christian and says he himself believes that Jesus is the Messiah.

My favorite one is this one:
“Revelation 13:18 reads: “This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666″. Then they use the letters in his name to conclude that Barack is the Antichrist: Barack Hussein Obama = 18 letters 6+6+6=18. Big deal–some people said the same thing about Ronald Wilson Reagan :)

If I have to choose between Messiah, Anti-Christ or Slick Politician, I go with slick politician.

A word about the last post: I realize the number of letters in his names are 6-7-5 and not 6-6-6: that’s what makes it so sad, the stupid lengths people will go to in order to make the evidence “fit” their beliefs.

    @ ohchicken:

@ jimthomp87: You’re right. It really doesn’t fit and this same thing has been said about many other people in history.

I don’t pretend to know nearly as much about Biblical prophecy as you or many other people, but it is my understanding that the Antichrist would pretend to be Christ in the beginning so that he could deceive people. Even the translation of “anti” from Greek can mean “in place of.” Is this a correct assessment?

“I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.

“…For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their deeds”.- 2 Cor 11:3-15

Since I study at home weekly with Jehovah’s Witnesses, they’ve given me a lot of books. There is a book analyzing Revelation that is so fascinating! They definitely have made my jaw drop at their analysis of the United Nations.

Well. Obama won the Democratic nomination. Now, do you think his messianic appeal will help him beat out McCain?

@ fightingwindmills: I LOVE the book of Revelation. I used to read the entire thing during our church services when I was a kid (we had long services), and always found the imagery fascinating and disturbing.

@ Lena B: Let’s hope so, because I’d rather have an inexperienced newbie than McBush. I think Obama will choose Hillary as his running mate and then McCain won’t stand a chance.

The Bible is very clear in many different places about the antichrist and one is this person will have Syrian blood, have no interest in men or women, never married. But it is well documented there will be many fore-runners of the antichrist. This must happen in order for the nations to be ripe for the antichrist and his system. I do believe Obama fits this bill and his ideas of change fit the order.

I think he will lead America into the sway of the Antichrist. He isn’t the antichrist. The antichrist’s seat will be in Rome..EU. The antichrist himselfwill be of syrian blood. The world will wonder after the beast…this sounds like Obama now, but he doesn’t lead the EU…the revived roman empire and he is nor syrian as far as I know. If you didn’t know the leader of the EU was given his power through a recommendation numbered 666….check and see. Also one of the saets in the EU parliament has never been sat in or allocated, it’s numbered is also 666. True,,,just look it up. You may want to look up the more then 800 secret concentration camps in america…and see what the new agers are waiting for. Like oprah, the big obama backer.

Also the EU is now in the progress of overseeing a peace deal betwwen syria and israel. Could it be for 7 years? Funny thing….the Eu has a treaty with israel and her neighbors already,,and it’s for 7 years….with a midterm review, 3.5 years into review. This midterm is in June 2010…the treaty started in 2007. It’s called the ENP treaty. Or european neighborhood policy…..happy hunting.

Wow. And Christians complain about Islamic Fundamentalists?? You are all equally crazy and filled with self important false moral superiority. If there was a Jesus, and he was the Son of God, and all the things He spoke were true? He WOULD NOT CARE FOR YOUR WAYS, and THAT is the truth. Jesus didn’t care for people who thought they knew better than God. So, to sum it up, keep your personal and insane beliefs out of my schools and government offices and I promise to defend your right to believe them with my dying breath. But stop with this AntiChrist BS already, and start reading the red text more often, eh??
