Bishop Gene Robinson Says ‘Time To Get Serious’

Those of you who have watched For The Bible Tells Me So will remember the courageous and moving story of Bishop Gene Robinson as he became the first openly-gay, non-celibate priest to be ordained in a mainstream Christian denomination. Now, Robinson is passionately warning other homosexuals of the dangers in assuming that Obama is going to win the upcoming presidential election.

It is no longer enough to make a decision to vote for Barack Obama. The polls – unbelievably and frighteningly – are close. The election of a LGBT-friendly candidate is not a foregone conclusion. We now have to WORK for his election. That means calling your parents, your siblings, your friends from college; it means talking to your co-workers at the water cooler and your next door neighbors – about why this election is important to you as a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person, and how it will make a difference to you and your family who inhabits the White House. It’s time to tell them that a vote for the Republican nominee is a vote against YOU, against YOUR rights, YOUR family. And if they don’t understand how that could be true, be ready to tell them.

“It’s time to tell them that a vote for the Republican nominee is a vote against YOU, against YOUR rights, YOUR family.”

If a person uses this theory with every political issue then there is no wonder we have so many conflicting sides in this country. There is so many different issues that everyone of us could claim we are for and against and the thought that I could pick any one of them and claim that a person doesn’t care about me just by who they may or may not vote for…is well…absurd. I am a American who believes that my right to vote is all about me and issues that concern me. Selfish as that may sound, I don’t believe that my vote hurts anyone but me …

I love you and Alan with all my heart. I am closer to ya’ll then my own family, but if I decide to vote Republican it’s not because I don’t love and respect you and wish for you everything that you desire and deserve (which is to be able to live a life of your choice without limitations or bais opinions)
